A day in the life of a Lead Art Director of Design Strategy

Ever wondered what it’s like to work as a Lead Art Director of Design Strategy? We spoke to Lauren Dooman, MicroMass (part of Ashfield Health) who took us through a day in her life.

One of the main reasons I pursued a creative career was to have the opportunity to work with a diverse group of people and clients on a variety of initiatives while positively impacting a significant amount of people. A “typical” day will always look a little different, and that’s how I prefer it.

My workday usually starts with checking emails or messages that may have come through overnight but could also begin earlier than usual with a dev team touch-base meeting. Then, after scoping out and establishing priorities for all the projects for the day, the real work starts.

On a typical day, projects can vary from internal client work to concepting and developing creative for the MicroMass website and social media channels to formulating strategy and crafting messaging and visuals for other internal agency committees. There are collaborative work sessions, as well as time spent individually for concepting and producing. Whether creating strategic plans and campaigns or participating in educational and engaging MicroMass organization and committee discussions and video sessions, I’m always thinking of ways to elevate our people and our agency while remaining strategically and creatively aligned with the business goals.

I spend time researching and exploring publications, current events, and other articles and organizations related to pharma, technology and experience design, and advertising and marketing.

It’s been exciting to be involved with the Human Dynamics branding and positioning and see how it has provided opportunities for ourselves and our clients by understanding people and connecting with them on a deeper level.

At the beginning of my design career, I would never have thought that I would be working in the pharma industry, but I have come to understand what an impact we can make in people’s lives. Each day is a chance to deliver unique and meaningful experiences that make it matter for everyone. Every day comes with a few surprises, and I embrace new challenges as they come.

I look forward to continuing working alongside talented and dedicated individuals who genuinely care about the work and being able to continue to develop my skills and contribute to and support MicroMass, Ashfield, and our partner agencies.
